Megan’s Myofascial Release (MFR) Story

I just want to take a few minutes to share my myofascial release (MFR) journey and to give you some insight on why I opened Turquoise Therapeutics.  I have ankylosing spondylitis which is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes my spine, tailbone, hips and jaw to produce extra bone growth and fused together.  I have also had multiple abdominal surgeries, infinite soccer injuries, multiple concussions, anxiety, post-partum depression, and 3 C-sections which were all factors that contributed to my limited capacity to participate in my life.  I had very limited spinal motion and was on multiple pain medications for years that didn’t provide me with pain relief or an acceptable quality of life.

I couldn’t walk longer than 5 minutes without needing a rest break, couldn’t lift my infants and had to treat my patients while I was sitting on a stool because of the pain and fatigue.  I rested every weekend all weekend just to be able to tolerate work.  I was in so much pain and wasn’t the mother, wife, or clinician I wanted to be.  It just wasn’t life.

I had tried everything to get relief.  I saw specialist after specialist, had so much testing, imaging, and multiple bouts of different physical therapy experts and modalities to help with the pain.  I just wanted someone to help me.  After years of pain, steady decline, and thousands of dollars later in medical bills, without any relief, finally, one PT tried John Barnes myofascial release.  That was the only treatment that gave me any sort of relief.  I am now in control of my symptoms and know exactly how to treat them when they arise.

Now, as a clinician, I had been utilizing myofascial release in my practice for years and getting good results with patients.  But after I was introduced to John Barnes’ myofascial release, as a patient, I realized traditional myofascial release was only scratching the surface.  I took my first John Barnes myofascial release class in 2019, and I was hooked!  I immediately took as many classes as I could.  Because of this authentic and powerful treatment approach, I am now able to run, jump, hike, and do all sorts of crazy high-level activities with my 3 children, that I would not have been able to do otherwise. I truly believe I would have been heavily medicated and in a wheelchair by now because of the pain and ongoing extra bone formation if I hadn’t found myofascial release.

Myofascial release gave me my life back.  It gave my family a present mother and spouse, and it gave my patients a clinician that truly “gets it.”  So many patients have benefited tremendously from this work.  It complements all other types of therapy, it never injures, and is truly the missing link in health care!

I am so grateful that I found myofascial release and would love to share this amazing hands-on method with you and your family to help you get back to living your life to its fullest, not just getting by because you have to, or you can.

You are a priority, you can feel better now, so schedule an appointment to get back to your life and find more joy!
